The Boutique Clothing Brands We Carry and How Each One Fits
Boutique brands do not publish size charts and most of them sell nowhere you can try things on. Here is a straight comparison of the labels we stock.
Brand Sizing at a Glance
- Which boutique brands run big?
- Easel runs the biggest by a wide margin and most people size down one or two. Umgee is relaxed but true to size. Zenana, Dear Scarlett, and Andree by Unit are all close to true to size.
- Why do boutique brands not publish size charts?
- They are wholesale labels. They sell to shops, not to shoppers, so their websites are built for buyers rather than for consumers. The shop that stocked the piece is the only one who can measure it.
- Are boutique brands better than chain stores?
- Usually in fabric weight and detail work, which is where cost actually goes. The styles also run in small quantities, so you are far less likely to see someone else wearing the same thing.
How Boutique Brands Actually Work
This confuses almost everyone and it explains a lot of frustration.
The brands we carry are wholesale labels. They design and manufacture, then sell in bulk to independent shops. They do not run retail stores and most of them do not sell to the public at all. Their own websites exist for shop owners to place orders.
That has three consequences for you. There is no official size chart to look up. Stock is whatever each individual shop bought, so when a size sells out it genuinely may never come back in that color. And the only person who can actually measure the garment is the shop holding it.
If you want to know how a boutique piece fits, ask the shop. We are the only ones with it in our hands.

How We Pick What to Carry
We are a small shop, so every piece we buy is a piece we did not buy instead. Four things decide it.
- Fabric weight first. If we can read our hand through it in the showroom, we pass. Thin fabric is the number one reason people return clothing.
- It has to work on more than one body. We favor smocking, stretch, tie waists, and relaxed cuts because they fit a real range of people.
- It has to go with things people already own. A piece that needs three other new purchases to work is not a good buy for you.
- Price has to make sense. We keep the bulk of what we carry between twenty and sixty dollars, because that is where people actually shop.
We also photograph and describe pieces ourselves rather than using the brand's stock images, so what you see is the actual garment.
Getting the Size Right Without a Fitting Room
You can get this right almost every time with one habit. Measure a garment you already own and love.
- Lay your favorite top flat and measure armpit to armpit. Double it. That is the bust measurement that actually fits you, not the one on a size chart.
- Do the same for length, shoulder seam straight down to hem.
- Write those two numbers down and keep them in your phone.
- Then just ask us for the flat measurements of anything you are considering. We will measure the real piece.
Two numbers in your phone will save you more returns than any size chart ever printed.
Boutique Brand FAQs
What are boutique clothing brands?
They are wholesale apparel labels that sell to independent shops instead of running their own stores. Zenana, Umgee, Easel, and Dear Scarlett are all examples. It is why you see the same brands across small boutiques and never in a mall.
Why can I not buy directly from these brands?
Most of them only sell wholesale, in bulk, to retailers with a business account. Their websites are ordering portals for shop owners. Buying from a boutique is the normal retail path for these labels.
Which boutique brand runs the biggest?
Easel, clearly. It designs oversized on purpose, and most people take one size down and sometimes two. Umgee is relaxed but still true to size. Zenana and Andree by Unit are the closest to standard sizing.
Are boutique clothes made in the same factories as fast fashion?
Some overlap exists, but the specification is different. Boutique labels typically order heavier fabric and more construction detail, which is the part you feel. Fabric weight is the most reliable quality signal at any price.
How do I know my size without trying it on?
Measure a garment you already own and love, flat, armpit to armpit and shoulder to hem. Keep those numbers in your phone and ask the shop for the flat measurements of what you are considering. It works far better than a size chart.
Do boutique brands restock?
Styles restock sometimes, exact colorways often do not. Boutique runs are small by design. If you find a color you love in your size, that is usually the moment to buy it rather than waiting.

Ask Us to Measure Anything
Send the piece you are considering and your two key measurements. We will measure the actual garment flat and tell you which size to take. That is the whole advantage of buying from a small shop.
