- Push the sleeves up. Showing a wrist and forearm breaks up the fabric and instantly looks more deliberate.
- Show one ankle or one shoulder. Cuff the pant, or let a wide neckline sit off to one side. One exposed point keeps a loose piece from reading shapeless.
Caring for Washed Cotton and Gauze
These fabrics are already distressed on purpose, which makes them easier than they look.
- Wash cold, separately at first. Mineral washed pieces can release a little dye in the first two or three washes.
- Expect gauze to wrinkle and let it. The crinkle is the look. Ironing gauze flat removes the texture you paid for.
- Hang dry or tumble low. Washed cotton shrinks in a hot dryer, and these are already cut generous, so you will notice.
- Leave frayed edges alone. They are meant to be raw. Trim a stray long thread, never pull it.
- Steam, do not press. Steaming relaxes a fold without flattening the texture.
